Abstract
In this thesis, I wish to examine four Renaissance utopias: those of More, Campanella, Harrington, and Bacon. I shall make a study of their milieu, discuss them in regard to this background, and compare and contrast them in all of their aspects: e.g. political, social, religious, educational, philosophical, scientific, literary, and geographical. I shall also discuss the lives of the four utopists, with special reference to the effect their lives had on their works and conclude with a consideration of the influence of each of the utopias, and of the problem of the failure of utopian literature.
