Abstract

It is my purpose in this thesis to point out the elements in children's books written in England during the nineteenth century that make these books really children's books or, as the case may be, prevent them from fitting into that classification. The question that I have attempted to answer is: Of what materials and according to what patterns were the children's books written in England from 1800-1900 fashioned?
