Abstract

Extremely limited resources dealing with speech and oral language development f or the classroom teacher of the educable mentally retarded, specifically on the primary level in Wisconsin, prompted the writer to research and explore this area. The shortage of trained speech therapists, and language therapists raised the need for providing assistance in speech and language techniques to the classroom teachers of educable mentally retarded. This thesis attempts to suggest methods and avenues of training which can assist these teachers in following up the speech or language therapists' work, or in setting up a similar program in the absence of such specialized personnel.
