Abstract

Theologians, laymen, and members of the hierarchy have recognized the existence and the need for public opinion in the Church. They have begun to describe and explain what it is. This thesis will attempt to improve their explanation of public opinion in the Church by studying specifically its growth and development in the light of what scholars have discovered about public opinion in the political society. This theory is much more definite, refined, and tested by criticism than what we now have in the Church.
