Abstract
The purpose of this thesis will be to demonstrate a non¬ Christians observations and conclusions concerning the immortality of the human soul. Cicero, the famed Roman philosopher, and statesman, is the man whose ideas concerning the immortality of the soul we will attempt to examine.
In this day and generation when diverse theories and hypotheses are prevalent concerning the soul’s immortality, we will attempt to see whether Cicero contributed anything of real value to the philosophy of his era and our time in regard to the immortality of the human soul.
In our discussion we will then consider Cicero's personal views on immortality, as given in his "Tusculan Disputations," and his treatise on "Old Age", "De Senectute". Moreover, we will also consider what outstanding modern writers in the field of the Classics have to say in regard to Cicero, especially in regard to his belief in immortality. By considering both of the fore-mentioned sources, I am positive that we will be able to arrive at a logical conclusion of Cicero’s doctrines in regard to the immortality of the soul.
