Abstract
The waxes are esters formed by the union of fatty acids and alcohols not belonging to the glycerol series. Hence waxes are sharply distinguished from fats in that they contain no glycerol; they have howe er, many properties in common with true glycerides (fats); thus they can be saponified with alkalies, the salts of fatty acids and alcohols being obtained.
