Abstract
For Many centuries it was known or suspected that exposure to the rays of the sun for varying periods was beneficial to the health. Sun cures were affected among the ancient Greeks and Egyptians as well as among the peoples of the present day. Among the ancients, however, the causes of these cures were unknown or superstitiously attributed to some occult power, while the modern people know that these cures are the results of physical, chemical and biologic changes induced oy the light rays of the sun. The knowledge however, of the action of the rays is not very profound the study of them is still in its infant stage. Most of the work along these lines has been done since the latter part of the nineteenth century. The invention, then, of mechanical means for Producing rays similar to those of the sun greatly accelerated the study.
