Abstract

This thesis is concerned with lubricating oils and solid lubricants. The initial problem in this research was the effect of Halowax 1012, 1013, and 1014 on lubricating oil. During the investigation, however, it was observed that the addition of Halowax to the lubricating oils formed a false gel at ordinary temperature, the consistency depending on the percentage of Halowax added. The result no longer favored continued research since the lubricating oil was made impractical. The problem then lent itself to the influence of Halowax on solid lubricants, in particular lubricating greases. It was on this phase of the investigation that Mr. LeTellier of the Pate Oil Company suggested further experimentation on the behavior of aluminum soap on lubricating oils.
