Abstract

Our pleasures are no longer those of our forefathers. With the advent of the motor car, the plane, the radio, and innumerable other modern inventions, life for us has taken on a new aspect. Ours is no longer a day of endless toil and struggle. The hardships of pioneer days have come to an end. Ours is a modern civilization, where machinery and manifold labor-saving devices have made possible shorter working hours and a greater margin for leisure, thus leaving time for play and for the pursuits of individual interests. The increased leisure may be an important contribution to a happy life.
