Abstract
No phase of Dentistry has been so replete with controversy amongst the Scientists as the treatment of root canals. This subject has been the hunting ground of Bacteriologist’, Surgeons and Dentists, and there has been a conflict for the last hundred years and more between those who have regarded pulpless teeth as a menace to health, and those who believed that these should and could be treated safely. The evolution of this phase of Dentistry with the contribution and controversies associated there with will be dwelt upon in this paper.
