Abstract
Rome was always a cosmopolitan city. She as conceived through a mingling of peoples and was nurtured in her cradle of seven hills on the cream of the surrounding tribes. She speedily outgrew her infant world, and thriving on the food of other races, soon stretched her aged length across the Tiber Riverbed with arms extending east far inland and west for miles along the road to Ostia.
