Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to show what copy appeal are current in present day advertising columns as exemplified by advertising appearing in the Milwaukee Journal for the year, 1937. Advertising copy may be divided into many categories, but the most obvious are the distinct groups which appeal either to the senses or to reason. If this thesis does no more than break down these groups as displayed on the newspaper page and analyze them for their individuating traits, then it will have accomplished its purpose.
