Abstract
"Extra-Curricular Activities" is becoming a familiar phrase. It refers to "those legitimate activities which ·are not provided for in that part of the school program which is usually designated as the curriculum." (1) The phrase is apparently new, yet the activities it refers to · are, in elementary form, as old as our educational system itself. · The Friday afternoon exercises, the spell-downs, and athletics under various forms, are of long standing in American schools. Previous to the last ten or fifteen years, however, such activities were carried on in an unsystematic way and consequently had no definite plan of procedure.
