Abstract
In a hearing before the Industrial Commission the president of the American Sugar Refining Company answered his inquisitors in this notable manner: "I think it is fair to get out of the consumer all you can, consistent with the business proposition." Now whether this gentleman felt that he was here laying down a canon of injustice or no, it is not our purpose at this place to discuss. But there is one thing concerning which he does not leave us in any doubt; we know how he fixes his prices-- get as much as you can. It shall be the purpose of this thesis to consider from the bulwark of scholastic philosophy how far justice permits us to go in and administering to this acquisitive instinct.
