Abstract
Halowax Oil is used as a.filler in plastic compounds, on wood as an insecticide against termites, and the Petroleum industry finds it a very good valve lubricant in internal combustion engines and a solvent for tarry residues which deposit on combustion chambers. Due to its low viscosity and very low congealing point it would therefore seem logical to investigate this further with the idea of using Halogenated oils as winter lubricants for automobile engines. The work naturally suggested further study, such as its effect on corrosion of steel, aluminum, iron and copper, the flash and fire points, viscosity at various temperatures, cold test and evaporation test.
