Abstract
All subjects in a school curriculum are designed to develop the pupils' powers to engage in desirable activities.
Reading is the most important subject in the curriculum. To teach it effectively requires careful daily preparation. The aim of reading instruction must be well understood and definite so that it may develop expressive oral readers as well as effective rapid silent readers. Expressive oral reading for entertainment purposes; skillful silent reading for meaning and satisfaction of the reader himself justifies the importance of this subject in the curriculum.
