Abstract
Hemorrhage, or the discharge of blood from a ruptured blood vessel during life, constitutes one of the normal results of every operation of tooth extraction. In the majority of cases its control is simple, as it ceases within a short time and need be no cause for alarm. In exceptional cases, however, the discharge may be prolonged and excessive and cause, not only great anxiety to the dentist, but also much mental stress and a condition of extreme physical exhaustion to the patient. In such cases it must be regarded as a very serious complication necessitating prompt and exceptional treatment. In rare instances, even after prompt and capable attention, the discharge of blood has persisted and has resulted in death.
