Abstract
The question as to whether the mentality of the Negro is inferior to that of the white is one over which there continues to be lively discussion in the United States. General popular opinion has always been that the Ethiopian is so lacking in natural capacity that he is predestined to forever remain inferior, intellectually socially and morally, to his more favored white brother. he, however, has not been content to remain in the subordinate position that the prejudices of the white man has assigned him. Since his emancipation in 1870 he has made astounding advances and has forced even the most prejudiced to recognize his progress.
