Abstract
Movement whether forward or backward, toward improvement or deterioration, or upward or downward is found in everything on the face of the earth. The value of an invention increases until it has reached its peak, after which the usefulness begins to lessen, An author's work either does or does not improve as the number of his works increases. It is this latter statement that we shall discuss with reference to Shakespeare. Do the characters in that great dramatist's comedies improve with each successive play? Do they move forward to the more natural or is it just the opposite with them? Do the number of walks of life portrayed increase with the number of plays written or not?
