Abstract
The writer has compiled this thesis chiefly from her own experiences gained by the kind permission of Mrs. Nelle Gardner, Executive Secretary of the Children's Service Association of Milwaukee. It was through the cooperation of this agency that it was possible for the writer to do some volunteer work for several months. All phases and viewpoints of life were seen which enable such a worker to expand her outlook on life. Prevalent conditions never imagined have actually been seen, and now are known to really exist. It is the writer's opinion that if more people would come in contact with the deplorable lives of those less fortunate, conditions should be bettered. This volunteer work has put into actual practice the social theories learned in books. The medical, mental and legal mechanism of society has been seen in actual operation by the worker.
