Abstract
It has been the aim of the author in the course of this treatise on some of the characters in the novels of George Meredith to bring out more clearly the relationship between some of those characters and the friends and contemporaries of the author's. The method used was an analysis of the novels written by the author and a study of the comments and criticism which fellow writers and modern commentaries have added. Besides this, it was necessary to trace the history of the author, that is; his life, and his friendships. In the manner the task has fallen to the writer to gather the facts relating to the subject in this treatise.
