Abstract

In the heterogeniety of modern civilization, the newspaper commands a position of prominence rivaled only by the greatest of the industrial and commercial corporations. Too many idealists, however, fail to comprehend the really stupenduos growth of the newspaper as a business. To the idealist, the newspaper is the champion of public rights, the defender of the weak, the voice of the people, the combatant of all that is evil. It is granted, of course, that the newspaper is all of that and more, but primarily the newspaper must be a highly organized business before it can function in its idealistic capacity.
