Abstract
The subject matter of this paper is "the minutest of pet nurslings of Nature the Desmids. So insignificant, that it is safe to say more than nine-tenths of the human race hardly know of their existence, the Desmids, nevertheless, offer a wide and extensive field for the moat fascinating study and research. The purpose of this paper is first, to give a brief history of the Desmids, and then to determine which families, genera, and species of the Desmids are most common in this vicinity, and to study the conditions which are most favorable for their growth.
