Abstract
The Works of the Missioners in Florida and New Spain up to the year 1600 follows and records the endeavors of these men as they tried to convert the Indians to the Catholic faith. The main expeditions into the new territories are described in part. Credit is given to Narvaez, De Soto, Coronado, and Onate for the work they did in opening up the territory so that the Friars could more easily enter into it. The great explorers, for the most part, did not stay in the wild country after their work was accomplished. They were either soon killed or else withdrew from the scene of their hardships to go back to civilization. The Friars, in contrast to them, accompanied or followed the explorers, and stayed to live their lives in the cruel land for the purpose of converting the Indians to the true faith.
