Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to show that despite the fact that in Wisconsin the Democratic party has been in power for so few years compared to the Republican party, they are still a prominent party, working for the progress of the state and are worthy of study. In order to accomplish this I have discussed briefly the early history of the Democratic party in the United States. I have then touched upon its very early life in the territory of Wisconsin and its importance in the early years of statehood. I have taken, rather than the entire span of fifty years from 1884 to 1934, the three Democratic Administrations in that period and have related them, touching upon the points of greatest importance during that time. I have, by measuring the available data upon the subject, given a statistical survey of the party since 1800, and have compared it with the progress of the Republican party.
