Abstract
Comparatively few of the plane sextic curves are known. None of the papers written about them gives a systematical treatment or a classification of these curves. The sextics appear more or less isolated in the different treatises. Apparently the methods employed produce only a very limited number of sextics. Thus, for example, G. R. Thompson treats in his article "Some Properties of a Particular Sextic” a sextic which is the inverse of the general cubic with respect to the triangle formed by three inflexional tangents. This sextic has three triple points, the three tangents at each being coincident. F. M. de Prony (1755-1839) derived a sextic by the link-motion. This sextic was discussed by Darboux 1879 and generalized by S. Roberts 1876.
