Abstract

When Vatican Council II convened many people were unsure what to expect from such a conclave of hierarchy. What resulted was an earthquake of ideas whose tremors are still being felt even now, fifteen years later and will continue for many years hence. One of the biggest shocks was allowing the Church laity into the inner sanctums of the clergy and its workings. No longer was the laity to be seen and not heard, but instead, the laity was invited to assume the roles held only in the past by the clergy, in this case, the pastor.
