Abstract
The systems analyst is a newcomer among the many skills employed by the business organization. As such, neither his duties nor the qualifications that he should possess has been well defined. This essay deals specifically with analyzing the duties and qualifications of the systems analyst.
First, the role of the systems analyst is examined in view of his duties as an information specialist. As such, his primary duty is to insure that the right information is received at the right time in a format that is useful to the user. In the fulfillment of this function, he must view the entire organization as a whole and try to relate its many diverse operations together into a meaningful unified system.
Second, traits and/or characteristics which are relevant to the successful execution of the duties of the systems analyst are examined.
Finally, more formal qualifications that relate to the role of the systems analyst as a liaison between management and computer personnel are discussed. These include the amount of formal education, practical knowledge of business, and computer experience.
