Abstract
The essence of Catholicism is its insistence that creed be translated into action in every phase of the lives of its adherents. Full compliance with this demand requires the Catholic to integrate fully the demands imposed by his various positions in society with those imposed by his faith. To do so, he must endeavor to see the "big picture" of his own particular positions. Only if the individual clearly perceives the "whole" can he truly fulfill his own part in it.
This essay is the result of the writer's efforts to discover the "big picture II of his major concern: the roles of the two dominant, often opposing, school systems1 1n our conflict culture. As a Catholic parent, the author is vitally interested in the education his children are receiving in the Catholic schools. As a public school teacher and counselor, he is concerned about the education he is giving 1n the public school system. The current image of each would seem to make true commitment to both a philosophical contradiction.
