Abstract
Members of the nursing profession, hospital authorities, and physicians are constantly striving to provide the best possible care for patients. The ultimate and essential aim of the Catholic Hospital is to promote the welfare of souls, to foster the supernatural life of sanctifying grace, and to affect the sanctification and salvation of the patient. Its immediate specific objective is to carry on the complex variety of activities designed to provide care for the sick. Each department within the hospital determines its own specific objectives and contributes to the attainment of the overall objectives of the institution. The objective of the nursing department is to give continuous and comprehensive nursing care to each patient. It has often been said that nursing is the privileged department because it is the nurse who administers direct care to the patient.
