Abstract
The transportation outlook for larger metropolitan areas has changed significantly in the past two decades. In striving to provide transportation systems which adequately serve the needs of the people, planners and politicians alike have modified their ideas concerning area transportation systems. This is especially evident in the ever increasing emphasis placed on the importance of the transit systems operating in metropolitan areas.
