Abstract
At first glance, Francois Mitterand's foreign policy seems very hostile towards the Soviet Union and very much in line with that of the United States. However, after a more in depth analysis it is obvious that Mitterrand has continued to keep French foreign relations independent from the superpowers. Although his words reflect a strong Atlanticist position, his actions represent only slight changes since the time of De Gaulle.
