Abstract
Over the past several years, public awareness of environmental issues has been high. However, while events such as the oil spill in Prince William Sound may get all the media attention, the environmental problems which will more likely impact the general public deal with the less spectacular issues of groundwater contamination and landfill integrity. Partially as a result of the well publicized Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (better known as Superfund), which was created to address uncontrolled hazardous waste sites, two things have become more clear: groundwater is an important but delicate resource, and good design of waste disposal sites is essential in limiting contamination which may migrate from landfills.
