Abstract

Parents and educators are becoming increasingly aware of the importance and necessity of value-learning in the formal education of children. The word values as used in this study is defined "as guides that tend to give direction to life. Parents are aware that their children are exposed to various ideas, philosophies, and life styles with which they are not in agreement and of which they cannot be supportive. Although they do not wish to shield their children completely from exposure to other views and ideals, realizing this exposure as a necessary perspective from which to make a value choice, nevertheless, parents are acutely aware of the child's need for direction in this major area. To a great extent, parents have entrusted this responsibility to educators and the content of the school curriculum.
