Abstract
AS A TEACHER:
You play the key role in our guidance program. The large number of high school dropouts, the increase of juvenile delinquency, high divorce rates, and the large sums some people spend on psychiatrists, all point to the need for guidance at all school levels. Your awareness of each student as an individual with his own unique interests, personality, characteristics, and abilities, places you in a strategic position in our program.
It is quite an understatement to declare that a teacher can generally spot a child who is having emotional difficulties, whether it is fighting on the playground, throwing spitballs in the classroom, consistently not doing assignments, can't sit still for a moment, or daydreaming at his desk. The questions are: "What can we do now?" "How can we get to know him better?" "How can we involve the family?"
This handbook is not meant to have all the answers. It is to give some consideration of how we deal with his behavior in the classroom.
