Abstract

The value of nursing education lies primarily in its contribution to patient welfare. In a service-oriented profession such as nursing, the students must be prepared not only in the knowledge of the subject matter, but also in the ability to transfer this knowledge to the care of the patient. This goal is achieved in the extent to which there is integration of knowledge in the practice of nursing. This basic educational problem needs further clarification through research. In the course in which nursing is first introduced to the students, it is necessary to convey the concept that the knowledge and understanding is important in so far as these serve as a means to development of skill involved in giving service to patients.
