Abstract
Generalized couette flow of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid in an annulus is analyzed. Cases ranging from pure shear flow to flow through an annulus with stationary walls are considered. Since the fluid does not exhibit linear characteristics, superposition of the solutions for pure shear (drag) flow and flow through an annulus with stationary walls can lead to considerable error. Accordingly, the appropriate differential equations of motion for a power-law fluid are solved. Expressions for the velocity distribution and the volume flow rate are presented, along with tables that facilitate numerical calculations.
