Abstract
New interpersonal relationships will be codetermined by old ones. The people a person chooses for spouses, friends, partners, assistants and superiors will be codetermined by the kinds of people a person has been living with the longest, most intimately and most regularly. All incidental losses of significant people a person has lived with becomes a factor. Toman feels that the closer new relationships come in kind to old ones, with other things being equal, the better the person will be prepared for these new relationships to succeed, be happy and last.
