Abstract
The majority of the educational programs in dental hygiene are two years in length and designed to prepare hygienists for the clinical practice of dental hygiene. Twenty-two of the one hundred-seventy four dental hygiene schools in the United States have four year college degree curricula. These curricula offer minors in many areas such as: Biology, Special Education, Health Education, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech. Thus, each year only a small percentage of the dental hygiene students graduate with a baccalaureate degree and only a small percentage of these graduate with an education-related minor.
