Abstract

All structural responses must satisfy the criteria associated with three basic concepts:

1.) Equilibrium of the internal forces with the applied loads.

2) Adherence to material conditions dictated by the stress-strain behavior of the particular material.

3) Compatibility of the deformation of the individual members and the support conditions and displacements of the structure as a whole.

By developing mathematical formulations to model effects, the response of the structure can be determined numerically. Matrix algebra and operations can be used to model each of the three basic criteria.
