Abstract
This paper is based upon the subject matter presented in the mathematics seminar at Marquette University during the 1953-54 school year. The purpose of this work is to present the foundations of what we might call a "mathematical science" and to apply these ideas to representative fields of mathematics .. The understanding of these fundamental ideas does not presuppose an intensive background in mathematics. The purpose in compiling this material was to present mathematics in such a way that anyone who has the ability and desire to do clear and logical thinking can gain an understanding of what is meant by "mathematics".
