Abstract

Each year principals and guidance counselors face the problem of grouping incoming freshmen into the proper class for each subject so that they may attain the most benefit from their classes. If the principal or counselor does not believe in homogeneous grouping, the problem is not very difficult. If he believes in homogeneous grouping, his task is difficult indeed. One common method of grouping is ability grouping. Those who benefit most from this seem to be the brightest students, while slow students appear to be the losers.
