Abstract

The changing concept of the role of the elementary school teacher in the modern school includes a greater responsibility for extra-instructional, or non-instructional, duties on the part of the classroom teacher. These extra-instructional responsibilities differ both in number and in degree in various schools and frequently differ with individuals on the same faculty. With more and more men teaching in the elementary school, much informal observing, analyzing, and evaluating has been done in comparing the role of the male elementary teacher with his feminine counterpart. Part of this comparison frequently evolves about the extra- instructional duties of men versus women.
