Abstract

There has long been a controversy over the acquisition of the old Northwest Territory under the agreement of the Treaty of Paris of 1783. The disagreement ha s been over one point, did George Rogers Clark ' s winning of the West have any effect on the Treaty of Parisof 1783? There is a whole list of eminent historians who have said that this feat did influence the makers of that document . Thereis also an equally long and distinguished list of historians who are in disagreement with this thesis .
