Abstract
Until approximately ten years ago, response surfaces were fitted by means which required cumbersome calculational procedures as in multiple regression analyses or much experimentation as in orthogonal polynomials. Dr. G.E.P. Box, presently at the University of Wisconsin, has designed what is called the composite Box Design which utilizes the theory and simple calculational procedures of orthogonal polynomials but requires much less experimentation. This report is written to present the theory, calculational procedure, and an illustrative example of the composite Box Design.
