Abstract
Tragedy always has an unhappy ending, but everything which satisfies this condition is not necessarily tragedy. There must be something within the individual which brings him to his destruction; his death must be the result of his deeds. The principle which fills his breast and into which he pours his whole being must drive him forward to his fate; his whole being must be absorbed in this one end and he must remain true to the principles involved even if he knows that death will result.
