Jesus Christ and the Complex Institution

Abstract

At a university which calls itself Jesuit, therefore Catholic, and therefore Christian, what should Jesus Christ mean to the place and its parts? What follows is a description of Marquette's answer to that question, and some reflections on the epistemology, ecclesiology, and ethics which underpin that answer. To the extent the answer and underpinnings are rational, they may have some use as guides, or principles for reflection, as other institutions try to live out a Catholic commitment.
