Abstract

The problem facing American educators from the beginning of the postwar (World War II) era of international educational exchange has been -- what to do about the large .number of foreign students ruining their academic careers in the United States each year because of an inadequate command of spoken and written English. The remedial measures in Speech and English offered to foreign students in Catholic Colleges and Universities deserves to be studied because of its importance in their education. This thesis will survey the facilities and services of various Catholic Colleges which are ameliorating this problem at the present time and to underscore unmet needs in this vital area.
