Abstract

This thesis is intended to provide a general design criterion f or the development of adaptive controllers for model-reference adaptive control systems . The second method of Liapunov is employed in the method which is applicable to a large class of control systems involving linear , nonlinear and time varying parameters with polynomial order inputs.

A step by step method of controller design is developed which yields a systematic procedure for determining controller parameters . The method , based on the asymptotic stability in the large of the null mode l-plant error , does not involve optimal control considerations, but controller gain and parameters are easily adjusted to yield acceptable results . Several illustrative examples indicating design procedure and controller effectiveness are given. State variable notation is used where possible to simplify the mathematics and aid understanding .
