Abstract

Housing problems have existed in the past in most urban areas, and are expected to continue in the future, if projected trends occur. As a consequence, numerous housing studies, plans, and programs have been conducted in an attempt to analyze and resolve the housing problem. In the conduct of several of these studies, attempts were made to develop and utilize housing market simulation models for forecasting and policy analysis. However, none of the models formulated were comprehensive operational systems approaches to housing market analysis. This research effort represents an attempt to formulate and test a truly comprehensive operational housing simulation model for a region. The testing of the model, which is done in the southeastern Wisconsin region, is based on data obtained from inventories conducted by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.
